About the Contributor
Thomas M. Holsen is currently the Jean S. Newell Distinguished Professor in Engineering, a professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University and Director of the Clarkson Center for Air and Aquatic Resources Engineering and Sciences. His primary research interests include the transport, transformations, fate and treatment of legacy and emerging hydrophobic organic chemicals, mercury, metals, and ions. Currently he is PI of the EPA funded Great Lakes Fish Monitoring and Surveillance Program (GLFMSP). The project performs analyses for legacy and emerging contaminants to assess temporal trends in organic compounds and mercury in open waters of the Great Lakes, using fish as biomonitors. He is also a co-PI on several DoD projects investigating the use of non-thermal plasma to remove per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFASs) from water. Dr. Holsen earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in Civil Engineering and is Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member, American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. He regularly teaches a graduate course on the transport of pollutants in the environment. He has over 210 publications and has successfully supervised research projects from industrial sources and State and Federal Agencies.
