About the Contributor

Rick Wilkin is an environmental geochemist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. His research focuses on the geochemical processes that control the behavior of contaminants in groundwater and advancing the development of innovative remediation technologies at contaminated sites. He is a leading EPA expert on the behavior of metals in groundwater at hazardous waste sites and was instrumental in developing technical frameworks for evaluating and applying Permeable Reactive Barriers and Monitored Natural Attenuation to manage risk from metals and radionuclides in groundwater. Current studies examine the use of natural tracers (Rare Earth Elements and stable isotopes) for understanding subsurface remediation. He has a B.A. in Geology from the University of Minnesota, a M.S. in Geology and Geochemistry from Michigan Technological University, and a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from the Pennsylvania State University. He serves on the editorial boards of the journals Chemical Geology and Geochemical Transactions.
